NothingProjector Black Series vs a White Wall: What Are You Paying For?

A white wall is cheap and bright. A UST ALR/CLR screen is engineered to control light direction, stay flat and provide a predictable image surface.

In a dark room, the wall gets closer

If your wall is smooth, neutral and flat, and the room is genuinely dark, a simple surface can look surprisingly good. Specialized ALR has less unwanted light to reject, so its advantage narrows.

In a living room, directional control earns its keep

With daylight or ceiling lights, a white wall reflects both projector light and room light toward you. A UST-specific lenticular screen tries to separate those directions, keeping more of the projector's useful light in the viewing path while suppressing more overhead light.

UST exposes wall imperfections

The steep projection angle can exaggerate waves and unevenness. A fixed frame gives you a controlled, tensioned surface and repeatable geometry.

FAQ

Is a white wall good enough for a UST projector?

It can produce an image, especially in a dark room, but wall flatness, paint texture and ambient light make results less predictable than a purpose-built screen.

Will an ALR screen improve black levels?

In ambient light, a darker directional screen can lower the visible black floor and protect perceived contrast. Results depend on the projector and room.

Should I test a screen sample first?

When available, a sample can be useful because screen gain and color behavior can be difficult to infer from specifications alone.
